Dr. Susan du Plessis

About

Dr Susan du Plessis studied Medicine at the University of Western Australia, graduating in 2000. She completed her hospital training at Royal Perth and Bunbury Regional Hospitals, and her General Practice Training in Bunbury and Busselton. Later she completed a Graduate Certificate in Sports Medicine from the University of Queensland.

Susan worked intermittently at Synergy Sports Medicine as a locum (relief doctor) for three years before joining the team as a permanent sports doctor in 2017.

Susan has a particular interest in injury prevention and rehabilitation, exercise-induced asthma and the role of nutrition in sports. She has attended three International Football Medicine Conferences and completed the FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine.

Susan’s personal sports interests are in road cycling and mountain biking. She is the mother of two very active young adults, who are or have been involved in many sports including ice speed skating, snowboarding, inline speed skating, cycling and mountain bike, gymnastics, aerobics, dance, circus, swimming, soccer, volleyball and basketball. They have both been involved in sport at a national level in Australia and Italy, and her son has been involved in international level sport. This has given Susan an insight into special aspects of elite sports such as travelling with a team and drug testing.

Outside of sport and medicine, Susan enjoys learning foreign languages, travelling, reading literary fiction, listening to music and attending live theatre, dance and music performances.
