Radial Shock Wave Therapy

Synergy are here to help

We are very excited to be able to provide RSWT at our practice. This machine has been shown to be very useful in the treatment of many hard to treat tendinopathies.

High success rates are shown for the treatment of:

  • Plantar fasciitis (heel spurs)
  • Lateral epicondylitis (Tennis elbow)
  • Patellar tendinopathy (Jumper’s knee)
  • Achilles tendinopathy, and others.

What is radial shock wave therapy?

Radial shock wave therapy is a form of treatment delivered by a highly specialised piece of equipment. The machine produces high energy impulses or shocks that are delivered to the skin over the area that we want to treat. The shock wave travels through he tissues and imparts its energy to the inflamed or abnormal tissue.

On average, 2000 shocks are delivered on each treatment session and this is repeated weekly for three treatments sessions.

The shocks have been shown to increase blood flow and destroy abnormal tissue, resulting in a more healthy healing environment. The tissue heals slowly over 6-8 weeks.

How does this treatment help?

This treatment has a proven place in the treatment of tendon/bone and tendon/muscle abnormalities. Conditions treated include Tennis elbow, Achilles tendinopathy, Plantar fasciitis(heel spurs), Patellar tendinopathy (jumpers knee), rotator cuff injuries (shoulder), and more.

This treatment is also very useful in the treatment of muscle trigger points.
